Welcome to Middleton Technology School
Middleton Technology School (MTS), which has been rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted since 2006, will become an academy from 1 September in a new partnership with a Greater Manchester-based housing group.
The 1350-place secondary school in Rochdale will keep its name but be part of Great Academies Education Trust (GAET) – set up in 2012 by housing association New Charter Group.
The school’s current headteacher Mrs Allison Crompton CBE will also take up the Chief Executive role at the education trust with the long standing Associate Head Teacher Miss Janine Kellett taking up the role of head teacher at Middleton.
By joining GAET, the school will have access to a range of services to further support staff, pupils, families and communities.
MTS will also be able to offer its expertise as a teaching school to the other three academies already in the education trust.
Ian Munro, Chair of GAET and Chief Executive at New Charter Group said: “We’re thrilled for a school with Middleton’s ‘outstanding’ reputation to be joining the education trust and are excited to see how the partnership develops.
“As a Greater Manchester landlord we want to help improve education and opportunities for children across the region and through our existing academies, we’ve already seen the impact our links with schools have had on young people and communities.”
Allison Crompton CBE added: “The Governors and staff of MTS are really excited and pleased to be joining GAET. The school has, for many years, supported other schools across Greater Manchester but we are never complacent and are always looking to improve for our students and our community. This next step will help us and the schools within GAET to get stronger together and ultimately improve the life chances of all our children by giving them a great education.”
